Product Description

The Movo M3 Lite is an ultra-lightweight folding wheelchair built around a magnesium alloy frame that brings the complete chair in at 23 lb — roughly half the weight of a standard steel wheelchair. It can be self-propelled or pushed by a caregiver, the 22″ rear wheels come off without tools, and the whole chair folds to 13.4″ wide so it fits in a car boot without a hoist.

Weight is the single thing that decides whether a folding wheelchair actually gets used. A standard steel chair weighs 38–45 lb, which is more than many spouses and adult children can lift into a car repeatedly. The M3 Lite weighs 23 lb complete, and 13.4 lb with the rear wheels removed. That difference is what turns a chair that lives in the hallway into one that comes on the trip.

The frame is magnesium alloy rather than the usual steel or aluminium — lighter than aluminium for the same stiffness, and it does not rust. The chair has attendant brakes on the push handles as well as wheel locks on the frame, so a caregiver can control the chair on a slope without reaching down.

Everything folds or comes away: the backrest folds down, the footrests swing away and detach, and the rear wheels pull off with quick-release hubs. Folded, the chair is 13.4″ wide and 29.3″ tall — it will sit in the boot of a compact car alongside luggage.

This is a standard transport-style wheelchair, not a bespoke or sports chair: the backrest angle is fixed and the seat does not tilt or recline. It is designed for hospital, care-home and home use on flat ground or gentle slopes, and for travel — which is exactly where its weight pays off.

Who the M3 Lite suits

The M3 Lite is for people who need a wheelchair some of the time rather than all of the time, and for families who have to lift it. Typical buyers are travelling with an older parent, managing a temporary injury or a recovery period, or keeping a chair in the car for long-distance days out where walking the whole way is not realistic.

If you use a wheelchair as your primary mobility for most of the day, look instead at a chair with a cushioned, adjustable seating system — the M3 Lite’s fixed backrest and standard cushion are not designed for all-day seated pressure management.

Magnesium alloy versus aluminium and steel

Steel wheelchair frames are cheap and durable but heavy, typically 38–45 lb. Aluminium cuts that to around 28–33 lb. Magnesium alloy is lighter again for equivalent stiffness, which is how the M3 Lite reaches 23 lb while still carrying 265 lb. Magnesium also does not rust, so the frame tolerates damp storage better than a painted steel chair.

Getting it in and out of the car

Fold the backrest down, swing the footrests clear, then pull the quick-release buttons on each rear wheel and lift them off. What remains weighs 13.4 lb — about the same as a full carry-on suitcase — and the wheels go in separately. Most people can manage this without help. Reassembly is the same in reverse and takes under a minute.
