The Movo Canopy is a retractable weather canopy for mobility scooters that protects the rider from sun, rain, wind and cold while keeping the cabin ventilated. It fits virtually any three- or four-wheel scooter via the 1″ square hitch under the seat, installs or removes in under 10 seconds, weighs 19 lbs (8.7 kg), and measures just 74 cm (29″) wide — narrow enough to pass through standard interior doorways.
The problem with most scooter weather protection is that it commits you. A fixed canopy is always up, catching wind on clear days. A full cabin costs upwards of $8,000, weighs 175 lbs, is not universal, and is prohibited on Quebec roads by the SAAQ. A simple fabric canopy protects from sun but offers almost nothing against rain or wind, and traps heat.
The Movo Canopy retracts. Leave it open on a fine day and it is a sunshade; pull it forward when the weather turns and it closes into an enclosed cabin with a clear front screen. You are not choosing once at purchase — you adjust it during the ride. Movo's own published comparison scores the Movo Canopy at 90% overall against 63% for a simple canopy and 46% for a full cabin, driven largely by that retractability plus its 19 lb weight and universal fit.
Practically, this extends the usable season. You can take the scooter out earlier in spring and keep riding until the first snow, and stop cancelling outings because rain is forecast. Installation uses the square accessory tube under the seat — sometimes called an accessory shackle or hitch — with 1″ internal dimensions, positioned centrally at the rear base of the seat. Invacare models require Movo's centre hitch bracket.
The canopy mounts to the square accessory tube under the seat — also called an accessory shackle or hitch — with internal dimensions of 1 square inch, positioned centrally at the rear base of the seat. Most three- and four-wheel mobility scooters have one as standard, regardless of manufacturer or year. Movo has tested the canopy on the Shoprider Big Foot and 889SL Deluxe, Invacare Comet Pro, Pegasus and LEO (with the centre hitch bracket), Fortress S700, 1700DT and S425, Pride Pursuit XL, Victory LX and Celebrity DX Sport, Heartway PF6K Plus, Eclipse Interceptor S940 GTX, Yeti 746 and Bigfoot S836, Continent Globe GS500, Gatsby X Vintage and Orthoquad RZ1500, alongside the full Movo and Heartway range.
Two things to check before ordering. First, confirm you have the square tube and that it is solid enough to carry part of the canopy's weight — if yours is missing or unstable, any welding shop can add a square tube inexpensively. Second, a seat back height of at least 20″ is recommended for optimal stability when using the upper support, though the canopy can still be used without it. Invacare models require Movo's centre hitch bracket, sold separately.
If you are unsure whether your scooter is compatible, contact Factory Direct Medical with your scooter's make, model and a photo of the area under the seat before ordering, and we will confirm fitment.

In almost all cases, yes. The canopy mounts to the 1″ square accessory tube (hitch) located centrally at the rear base of the seat, which is standard on the great majority of three- and four-wheel mobility scooters regardless of brand or model year. Movo has tested it across Shoprider, Invacare, Pride, Fortress, Eclipse, Heartway, Continent, Gatsby, Orthoquad and its own Movo range. Invacare models require Movo's centre hitch bracket, sold separately. Check that your square tube is present and structurally sound before ordering — if it is missing or unstable, any welding shop can fit one inexpensively. If you are unsure, send Factory Direct Medical your scooter make, model and a photo of the area under the seat and we will confirm.
Under 10 seconds, once the canopy has been assembled the first time. Initial assembly is a one-time job with a detailed manual and an instructional video available from Movo. After that, fitting the canopy onto the scooter's hitch or lifting it off is a matter of seconds — which is the point. A weather cover that takes twenty minutes to fit gets left at home; one that takes ten seconds actually travels with you.
A canopy substantially improves rain protection but does not make a scooter waterproof. The Movo Canopy retracts forward into an enclosed cabin with a clear front screen, keeping the rider and the tiller controls largely dry — Movo rates it 4/5 for rain protection against 1/5 for a simple fabric canopy. However, the scooter's electronics, motor and battery are not sealed, so avoid deep puddles, heavy standing water and prolonged exposure. Dry the scooter afterwards and store it indoors. A canopy is best understood as extending the range of weather in which you can ride, not as making the scooter all-weather.
Yes. The Movo Canopy is rated legal in all Canadian provinces, including Quebec. This matters because the SAAQ specifically prohibits full enclosed cabins on mobility scooters in Quebec. A retractable canopy is the compliant way for Quebec riders to get meaningful rain, wind and cold protection. Movo Evolution is itself a Quebec manufacturer based in Granby, so the product was designed with those provincial rules in mind.
Movo publishes a direct comparison. A simple fabric canopy scores 63% overall — good sun protection and light weight, but almost no rain, wind or cold protection and no retractability. A full cabin scores 46% — excellent weather protection, but at 175 lbs and $8,000+, with no retractability, no universal fitment, poor ventilation and prohibited in Quebec. The Movo Canopy scores 90%: retractable, 19 lbs, universal fit, 10-second installation, ventilated, legal everywhere and around $639. Unless you need absolute maximum enclosure and can accommodate the weight, cost and legal restrictions, the retractable canopy is the more practical choice.
The Movo Canopy is a retractable weather canopy for mobility scooters that converts between an open sunshade and an enclosed cabin, fits virtually any three- or four-wheel scooter via the standard 1″ square hitch, installs in under 10 seconds, weighs 19 lbs and is 29″ wide. Legal in all Canadian provinces including Quebec. Available from Factory Direct Medical at $639 CAD.
Important Notice: The Movo Canopy provides weather protection but does not make a mobility scooter waterproof or all-weather. Scooter electronics, motors and batteries are not sealed — avoid deep water, heavy standing water and prolonged exposure, and store the scooter indoors. A canopy increases the scooter's wind profile; reduce speed in strong crosswinds and on slopes. Confirm your scooter has a structurally sound 1″ square accessory tube before ordering. Invacare models require the Movo centre hitch bracket, sold separately.
