Rollators are the most commonly sold walkers today because of their ease of use and various standard features. They normally consist of four wheels which will be either 6 or 8 in diameter. The 6 inch wheels are generally suggested when the walker will usually be used indoors or on hard flat surfaces. The 8 inch wheels will roll over obstacles easier and tend to be chosen by people who are more likely to use their rollator walker outdoors.
Rollators almost always come with a basket or bag of some sort to carry items such as purses or shopping bags. When the basket or bag is located under the seat it will tend to be more secure than when it is hooked on the front of the walker.
Most rollator walkers are also equipped with hand brakes that work similarly to those on a bicycle with the exception that they can be used to lock the wheels. It is important that the user locks the wheels before sitting on the seat for safety.
