Understanding KN95 Masks During The Coronavirus Pandemic

In the battle against the Coronavirus pandemic, masks are the frontline standard for essential care workers, as well as civilians attempting to help stifle human to human transmission. Masks are now recommended for use when in close proximity with others, not only to protect ones-self, but also to prevent transmission to others.

On average, 98% of all worldwide cases show no symptoms, or mild symptoms, but that doesn’t mean a person can’t still be a carrier. Masks play an important role in keeping everyone safe, until the crisis has passed.

KN95 masks are an excellent way to stay protected from the Covid-19 outbreak, but it helps to understand this personal protective item a bit more. Essentially, KN95 masks are almost identical to U.S.-standard N95 masks, with the exception that the former pass fit tests on humans with ≤ 8% leakage. A KN95 mask is designed to capture 95% of particles, including Coronavirus, with a particle size of approximately 0.12 microns in diameter.

Factory Direct Medical sells KN95 face masks with a shelf life of 3 years, which means they’ll outlast the Coronavirus pandemic well past a possible second wave, and into the foreseeable future. Our masks offer four layers of protection with an adjustable bridge bar. All masks are made of non-woven fabric, and we offer quantity pricing for bulk purchases.

It’s important to note that KN95 masks are not recommended for use in low oxygen environments, while sleeping, or outdoors in heavy heat or with serious air pollution. This has to do with the design of the KN95 mask in comparison to its U.S. equivalent, the N95 mask, which is designed to be slightly more breathable. Regardless, neither mask is a good candidate for the criteria mentioned above. Instead, it’s recommended that you wear a 3 ply face mask under those specified conditions.

For those working on the frontlines of the Coronavirus pandemic, KN95 masks are a great way to keep everyone safe. They can also be stored a long while, in the event of another pandemic outbreak, should such an unfortunate situation arise. With news of a possible vaccine ready by October, the Coronavirus crisis may soon come to an end, but cautious optimism is still the order of the day. Until the situation is over, it’s best to stay safe, and prevent yourself from unknowingly spreading the virus to others in your vicinity.
