Bathtub Safety Bar
Designed only for bathtubs, the clamp-on tub bar clamps to the side of the bath tub and provides a secure handhold for people stepping into, or out of their bathtub. There are several designs, makes and models of clamp-on bathtub bars and choosing the best one is dependent on the needs of the user.
While they do aid in the entry to the tub, if not placed well, he can inhibit entry into the bathtub. The bathtub bar must be mounted towards the end of the bathtub but which end is the user's preference. Please note that these tub rails are clamped to the bath tub and must be tightened securely to be safe.
Clamp-on tub bars are designed for ambulatory people who can step into the tub and come constructed of different materials and different heights. These bars are very secure when installed properly and the force is down on top but regardless of how well they are installed, they will come loose if a fair amount of force is exerted in a side to side motion. This side force is common when the user is sitting in the tub and grasps the top to pull themselves to a standing position. Tub bars are not designed for this type of use.
Anyone who requires a tub bar should probably also consider the purchase and installation of wall mounted grab bars for added bathroom safety.
